Turbo Training
APRIL 1st: TURBO TRAINING HAS NOW STOPPED FOR THE SUMMER
More information on summer turbo/run sessions will follow
We hold weekly indoor turbo training sessions on Wednesday evenings at 1900 hours during the winter months. For 2007/2008 these will run from the start of November.
The venue is the Abbey Meadows School, Galfrid Road, Cambridge CB5 8ND. The entrance is through the Community Centre immediately inside the gate.
You'll need: your bike, cycling shoes, cycling shorts and suitable clothing for getting sweaty; a drink bottle (there is a tap for refilling); a towel for sweat management and your turbo trainer. If you have a block or front wheel stand and a Heart Rate Monitor bring those too (these are not essential - don't worry if you don't have them).
There are showers if you prefer to wash before going home.
The Club has a small number of turbo trainers available to enable newcomers to try before buying and to help those who are unable to bring their own. These must be reserved on the Monday or Tuesday before each session by email.
The sessions are structured and progressive, focussing initially on technique and economy and then on cardiovascular development. They are suitable for (and attended by) cyclists of all abilities from 15 years old upwards.

Running
Running training is often regarded as something that can be done alone, however training with others, and with at coach, can provide a significantly better environment for making improvements. Our Thursday evening run sessions place considerable emphasis on developing running technique and running speed.

From the start of November the Club has a long, group run on Sunday mornings.
The meeting place is Milton Country Park and starting time is 9:30am. This is the run start time so anyone planning to change, stretch or do any warming up before the start should have completed this by 9:30.
The purpose and nature of the run is low intensity & continuous. Runners should be able to hold a conversation.
Guidelines for distance & time: The route should enable runs of approximately 45 minutes and approximately 90 minutes - so an example would be two loops of a circuit of four to five miles. Those requiring a longer run will be able to add additional distance as necessary.
Routes should be predominantly off-road but not too muddy or boggy!
The idea is to run as a group or groups, rather than run as individuals and re-group. This requires a certain amount of discipline and common sense.
There is a nominated group or run leader each week. The responsibilities of the run leader are be:
- to be at the start in time
- to plan a route and ensure that everyone has the necessary information to follow it.
- to make sure that the run doesn't start early
- to make sure that the run doesn't start unduly late!
- to welcome any newcomers.
And that's about it....
